BMW Group

Level 6 Engineering Technician Apprentice

Job Description

"Plant Oxford is the birthplace and heart of MINI production. Manufactured to individual customer specifications, hundreds of MINIs leave the plant’s assembly lines each day, off to meet new owners in more than 110 countries around the world. Three UK plants have a part to play in MINI production – Plant Hams Hall makes engines, Plant Swindon produces body pressings and sub-assemblies for MINI, and all this comes together at Plant Oxford with body shell production, paint, and final assembly.
Our vehicles are packed with the latest technology. That's largely down to the Engineering Technicians who develop, create and quality check our products and systems. Whilst training onsite, you will rotate around the business with placements in all areas of automotive manufacturing including: R&D, Process Planning, Quality Control and Production Validation.

Training includes the study of state-of-the–art engineering and production techniques which are constantly developing in line with new technologies. You will need to possess the physical dexterity to carry out precise work with small components and the mental ability to handle complex data calculations, of all types, rapidly and with accuracy. In addition to your technical skills, the ability to work in a team and communicate effectively to and with others is essential.
You will need to be enthusiastic and well-disciplined as our apprenticeship is heavily focused on attitude and behaviour. In addition, you need to exhibit initiative, be reliable and conscientious. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to think logically and to work both independently and as part of a team.
Apprenticeship Programme and Career Development:

Graduate engineering technicians will complete a broad spectrum of placements throughout the business. The placements give you the chance to experience the business as a whole whilst carrying out business relevant projects alongside your study. You will have the opportunity to take advantage of the benefits of working for a world-class global automotive manufacturer, networking with people of different nationalities and have the opportunity to put theory directly into practice.
BMW offers an enhanced level 6 degree apprenticeship in comparison to others in the industry. The four year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of engineering and production technology including: robotics, controls systems, machining, electronics, systems control and many more.
The first year of the program is purely in a learning environment where in addition to starting the academic requirements of your program, you will undertake a practical based engineering program which covers core engineering skills such as milling and turning, hand skills, electrical and electronic circuits and control and fluid power, PLC’s etc.

Whilst developing specialist, on-the-job knowledge, the apprentice will also undertake a fully funded study toward the attainment of a BEng (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering.

Your career with BMW Group will be designed to meet individual aspirations and the business needs of an internationally recognised company. You start on a business awareness programme followed by career objective training in the relevant departments. Opportunities for higher Education are available, depending on pre-qualifications, personal performance, attitude and business needs.
