Job Description

As a Customer Service Reception apprentice with the Lambert Medical Centre, you will be providing reception services to all practice contacts including staff, patients and members of the public, providing high quality administrative support to the practice and representing the practice in a friendly and professional manner.

Reception Duties:

● Greeting and Directing patients and other visitors within surgery.

● Checking in patients using the electronic system.

● Making appointments and giving out appointment cards.

● Ensure those patients without an appointment but who need urgent consultations are seen in accordance with practice policy.

● Accepting and handling specimens.

● Explaining practice procedures and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary services.

● Ensure procedures are complete.

● Registering new patients, temporary patients, emergency patients and those requiring immediate treatment.

● Giving out medication to patients following Dispensary protocols.

● Processing requests for medication or forwarding to the appropriate person.

Telephone Duties:

● Making appointments.

● Giving out test results.

● Recording requests for home visits in the appointment book.

● Taking messages for doctors, nurses and other staff and recording them on the computer.

● Telephoning other agencies as needed.

● Ordering of ambulances in an emergency and assisting patients who need patient transport for hospital appointments.


● Filing of medical record.

● Opening and processing the post.

● Contacting patients who need to be seen regarding test results, hospital letters or for a medication review.

● Entering patient information on to the computer.

● Showing a pleasant and cheerful manner to patients at all times.

● Assisting with stocking shelves in Dispensary.

● Ensure total confidentiality, adhering to the NHS Code of Confidentiality that no information about patients, either medical or personal is disclosed to persons other than those employed by or attached to the practice for whom such information is relevant.

● Such other duties as requested by the Practice Manager or as agreed with Doctors.

At Lambert Medical Centre, you will be working towards the NHS Customer Service apprenticeship over the course of 15 months.
