About us

We’re bursting with pride at Aldi. With over 990 stores in the UK and over 40,000 colleagues, it’s no wonder we’ve won so many awards for being such a great place to work. The things that make us a great retailer, also make us a great employer. There’s a real sense of clarity: everyone knows what’s expected of them and they can see how their efforts fit into the bigger picture. Progression is based on merit and it’s easy to see how you can achieve personal success. And, perhaps more importantly, we’re really open to fresh ideas and new perspectives that will help us to become even better.

As an Aldi Apprentice, you are trusted to make real decisions that help deliver the best experience for our customers, and with opportunities in Stores, Logistics, Driving and National Buying, there's more than one way to succeed here.

Stores Programme

On our Career Starter Programme, no previous qualifications are required. From day one, you’ll get hands on experience working in one of our stores, learning and developing the skills required for our incredibly important Store Assistant role. Mentored by your Store Manager and Area Manager, you will be shown what makes the store run so successfully, from teamwork, handling stock to customer service. All whilst working towards your Level 2 Retailer Apprenticeship.

The second route on our Stores Programmes is the Store Management Apprenticeship, which will teach you all you need to know about how to succeed in retail management. You will learn what it takes to become a Deputy Store Manager and work towards both your Level 2 Retailer and Level 3 Retail Team Leader qualifications.

Logistics Programme

Our Logistics Career Starter programme gives a rare insight into retail logistics. You’ll learn all abouthow our products get from our suppliers to our customers’ shopping baskets and experience it allfrom how to pick, wrap and pack, how to use logistics equipment to move goods and health andsafety procedures. And, with a structured career path, you’ll be well on the way to becoming asuccess within our business all whilst working towards a Level 2 Supply Chain Operative qualification.

Drivers Programme

To get on our Driver Apprenticeship, you’ve got to be pretty good behind the wheel. But we’re also just as interested in how driven you are. You’ll get the grips with the technical side of the job, understanding how the Warehouse works before being learning how to drive our LGV’S. You’ll finish the year with a Cat C + E licence and a permanent position at Aldi.

National Buying Programme

As a Buying Apprentice, you’ll get to use your creative skills to help build exciting product ranges for our customers and learn how to forecast for future demand using data to support your decisions. You'll work towards achieving a Level 4 Buying and Merchandising qualification too! If you're passionate about developing your market and industry knowledge and have buckets of enthusiasm, then we’re sure our Buying & Merchandising programme will be right up your street.

Case Studies

Lee, Project Section Leader

"I wanted to continue my studies but didn't feel that university was the best route for me. I wanted an Apprenticeship that could be made into a career and Aldi offered real responsibility and the chance to be mentored by industry leading managers. I have been in various roles since I completed my Logistics Apprenticeship, from Warehouse Section Leader to my current role as a Project Section Leader, which has given me the opportunity to travel to Germany!"

Lona, Deputy Store Manager

"When I finished school, I came across Aldi's Store Management Apprenticeship Programme and was interested in the benefits, such as great career progression and learning whilst earning. A typical day as an Apprentice is varied and because I wanted to progress, it was important that I was shown all aspects of the store and how it ran on a day to day basis. I am now currently a Deputy Store Manager, and I am working towards progressing to an Assistant Store Manager and focusing on the skills required in order to reach this goal".

GAP APPRENTICESHIPS: MARKETING
Natasha Rooney

What was your apprenticeship qualification?

"I completed a SCQF Level 6 - Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with QA Apprenticeships."

What did you learn during your apprenticeship?

"I liked the idea of being able to learn and work at the same time. I gained so much experience during a short space of time. All  aspects  of  marketing,  including  email  marketing,  legal requirements in sales and marketing and marketing  principles.  I  participated  in  many  training  weeks where I gained many skills like how to perform an SEO audit, and how to complete a marketing strategy to increase brand awareness."

What support did you receive from GAP during your time as an apprentice?

"I had a great team during my time as an apprentice. If I ever had any questions, I always knew that I could ask someone,  and  they’d  be  happy  to  help.  I  was  able  to  take time out of work to complete training during business hours."

How did you find the experience overall?

"I really enjoyed my time as an apprentice because I gained so many skills and am now able to put them to use in my day-to-day job."

How has your role changed since completing your apprenticeship?

"I  have  taken  on  a  lot  more  responsibility  within  the  team.  I  am  able  to  complete  any  task  that  is  given  to  me. I’ve worked closely with new members who have joined  that  team  and  am  able  to  support  them  with  familiarising themselves with GAP Marketing.

Do you have any advice for future apprentices?

"Work hard because it’s worth it."

What are your future plans now you have completed your apprenticeship?

"Since completing my apprenticeship I have progressed to the role of Marketing Assistant. I know all aspects of marketing  thanks  to  my  apprenticeship,  and  I  plan  to  continue  to  develop  my  skillsets  and  progress  in  my  career."
